QMilch – Fabric Made from Milk

Anke Domaske, a German fashion designer and microbiologist, has created fabric out of milk protein. Sounds too good to be true as the fabric, called QMilch, feels like silk, washes normally, water-efficient to produce, and hypoallergenic.

Turkey 2011 – Photos Preview

Not sure this is really much of a photos preview since I have around 30 photos below, but considering I started from over a thousand (me and my beau’s cameras combined), its safe to say its a fraction of what I’ll eventually post on Happy Spooner (which is in the process of a redesign).

Don’t forget to check out the video montage I made of clips we took while traveling in Turkey as well.

I discovered Nuue by Jungeun Lee while exploring the Royal College of Art website and immediately fell in the love with the project. Lee transforms wound fibre into fabric via a heating process with pressure. She begins by wrapping the fibre around the desired silhouette, such as a custom wooden mannequin shown above and below. Following the heating stage Lee completes the process by removing the garment and proceeding with any necessary pattern cutting or sawing to refine the piece. Overall there is no or minimal waste.

Turkey 2011 – Video

Got back from a 17 vacation to Turkey yesterday morning. What an AMAZING country. We mainly divided our time between Istanbul, Selçuk, Fethiye, and Cappadocia, the last being my favorite. The video above (best viewed with sound) shows clips from our trip, organized by destination for the most part. Hopefully I’ll get a preview of pics up in the next day or so as well.

Photo Vases by ShiKai Tseng

I meant to post on Shakai Tseng awhile back, but better late than never. Shikai Tseng decorates vases by covering them in photo-sensitive solution followed by capturing an image on their surface via a pinhole camera. Tseng then develops the vases in a darkroom like a normal photograph, the result being a record of the surrounding environment in which the vase was exposed, left permanently on the surface. I highly recommend watching this movie by Juriaan Booji on Tseng’s process.
